I sketch to clear my mind. I sketch to hear my own thoughts. I have always doodled in the margins and occasionally painted a full bold canvas. Many sketches are done in permanent marker, in a few quick strokes. I like the feeling of not overthinking. Letting my mind's eye flow seamlessly to the grainy surface of the paper and then drift away, again.
Many of my sketches feature a feminine spirit. She rises amidst the flames and mountains, kneels by the river and touches the stars at night. When I am still and quiet, I can feel her distinctly. she wears silence with grace and draws on her own strength. I know women like her and am better for it. She reminds me what it means to have life. And live it.
I love to capture the beauty in nature. Clouds and leaves. Sunset. Water. Flowers. Trees, mountains, lakes and beaches. The intricate design in the world around us - visible every day - takes my breath away. When I am not too busy to stop and notice.
My written voice is different than my spoken one. And I like it better. It sounds stronger, more self-assured, willing to make bold statements. Sometimes it even swears. I hear it all the time in my head though it seldom passes my lips. Here, it will land and speak. At last.
